PHOTOS: Fireworks Ring In Fourth of July

Lake Hopatcong celebration lights up sky.

With a lawn full of blankets, chairs and revelers, the members and guests of the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club enjoyed the fireworks display Friday night, which began at 9:34 p.m., perfectly clear skies.

The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club has sponsored the fireworks on Lake Hopatcong since the early 1950s.

Due to current regulations and for safety reasons, in 2010 the LHYC had to purchase four barges that allow the display to happen offshore. Annual fundraising efforts have helped offset the cost of this purchase and remains necessary to continue with this long standing tradition. Off the docks of the club, the fireworks ended with a "bang," and a red, white and blue pyrotechnic flag that illuminated the crowd on the lawn and ignited excitement among the children both on shore and off in nearby boats.

With hundreds of appreciative horn honks and joyful screams coming from the water, one could tell it was another successful night of a beloved event.
