Prepare for Long Hopatcong Council Meeting

Bring coffee if you're going to Wednesday's mayor and council meeting at 7:30 p.m. at borough hall. And not just because Hopatcong Patch will need it.

The agenda, which can be viewed on the right, looks packed. Same as last month. The agendas should shrink once the mayor and council get back to the twice-a-month schedule in the fall.

Among the highlights:

• The formation of a joint committee with Hopatcong's Board of Education to "evaluate properties suitable for playing fields."
• The police chief's 2011 contract.
• Two staff attendants to be hired for Brant Park throughout August.
• An update on the borough's 9/11 monument, set to be unveiled on the 10th anniversary of the attacks.
• Money for the police to conduct a drunk-driving crackdown.
• A combined land-use board, joining the zoning and planning boards.
