Softball: Hopatcong Falls in Rain-Soaked Home-Opener
Huge first inning pushes Morris Hills past Chiefs, 17-1.
- IN SHORT
Hopatcong took to its home field against Morris Hills in a cold, driving rain. Three innings later the game was called with the Scarlet Knights getting the best of the Chiefs, 17-1. Morris Hills scored 14 runs in the top of the first off freshman pitcher Kaylee Bruggerman.
- CHIEF OF THE GAME
Coach Gary Widdoss gives his entire team credit for sticking it out for the three innings the team did play. Both his freshman pitchers, Bruggerman and Hannah Bibault, saw action on the mound and both struggled with the weather conditions. Despite their struggles, Widdoss said he thought they performed OK.
- THEY SAID IT
“Today was very wet, very cold. The ball was always wet and the field was wet and sloppy. We should have never started the game." — Widdoss
