The Sparta Township Council, the administration, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and I want to convey our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of one of our valued residents who passed away from the deadly effects of the COVID19 virus. A single loss is a collective loss for our community.

I want to assure each resident of our community that your Council, administration and staff, and particularly the Sparta OEM, has been and will continue to work closely with the Sussex County Department of Health, the Governor of the State of New Jersey, the Freeholders and our elected officials at the state and federal levels to protect the health and safety of our residents during this devastating pandemic.

It is imperative that every adult lead by example and comply unequivocally with the Governor’s Executive Orders that direct every resident to: “stay home;” maintain social distance at all times (6 feet or 2 meters); wash your hands continually; and know the limitations on “gathering.” Additionally, we are asking all Sparta residents and business owners to assist our efforts in keeping the community informed by visiting our website www.spartanj.org and registering on the Sparta Township Honeywell/Everbridge Community Alert System today.

An English poet wrote, “no man is an island…” We are imploring you to become an island for you and your family’s health. This is a deadly virus for which there is no treatment and no vaccine. STAY HOME. STAY SAFE. STAY CONNECTED by signing up for Sparta’s Honeywell Alert System.

PLEASE, Jerry Murphy, Mayor
