Sports Wrap: Drama Fuels Hopatcong's Second Straight Win, Big Day for Boys Track

Three-run fifth inning shoves Chiefs softball past Sussex Tech, 4-3. Boys track takes 94-45 win over Hackettstown.

Don't call it a comeback. OK, call it a comeback.

Hopatcong entered the fifth inning down two runs against Sussex Tech on Tuesday afternoon at home. But the Chiefs stormed back, rattling off three runs for a 4-1 victory over the Mustangs.

Senior Kelsey Brennen's fielder's choice brought home senior Kristen Toropiw, topping off the rally. Hopatcong improved to 3-7.

The green and white squad went down, 2-0, in the first, but cut Sussex Tech's lead to one after the second frame. Hopatcong made just one error to the Mustangs' four.

It was the Chiefs' second straight win. Hopatcong ripped through Hackettstown on Monday, 13-4.

Boys Track

Hopatcong's boys track team won its season-opener, toppling Hackettstown, 94-45, on Tuesday afternoon.

Aric Webster took wins in the 100-meter dash (11.5 seconds) and 200-meter dash (24 seconds) for the Chiefs.

The girls track team fell, 99-37, in its season-opener to the Tigers.
