VIDEO: Hopatcong Soccer Marks 9/11 Anniversary
Borough youth soccer club kicks off season with heartwarming tribute.
The Hopatcong Hawks youth soccer opening day ceremony on Saturday was a mostly fun-filled affair. Put children on a field with pizza and soccer balls, and that's bound to happen.
But for a few minutes the Hawks stopped to remember those lost in 9/11 on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the attacks. Three players stood on the field, backs turn to the crowd. Their numbers: nine, 11 and 11—or 9/11/11. Near them a group of players displayed an American flag.
To top it off, the club named each of its in-town teams after important 9/11 figures. Here's the list:
