Weather Delays Lake Lackawanna Dr. Reopening

Hopatcong drivers could use the road by next week, county official says.

Lake Lackawanna Drive might not open until the end of next week, a county official said.

The $677,066 Lubbers Run bridge rehabilitation project was supposed to end Nov. 25, but has been pushed back due flooding resulting from bad weather.

"It takes a long time to recover from the storms because the stream carries a lot of water," said Susan Delmar, supervising engineer of the Sussex County Division of Engineering. "It takes days for this particular stream to go down."

Delmar said the Sussex County-funded project, which began Oct. 3 and was awarded to Jogi Construction of Edison, will result in a bridge that will last for more than 50 years.

Delmart said the road could open between Wednesday and Friday.
