Youth Wrestling: Hopatcong Rallies Over Randolph

Olmstead, Mastroeni, Smaha, Rodriquez shooting for Tri-County League titles.

The following is from Hopatcong Youth Wrestling.

How about this for an encore? Just 1 day prior 11 boys represented the Hopatcong program at the NWJML Championships and took home trophies and medals. 7 of those boys are also on the Tri-County varsity team and all helped secure the 2 point win over rival Randolph 48-46.

50lb Coner Loven got the team going with a forfeit. 55lb Frankie Mastroeni got a tough loss. 60lb Jarrett Luciani wrestled tough but lost a decision. 65lb Mike Mastroeni got the win via forfeit. 70lb Brandon Olmstead lost a tough match. 75lb Jason Cramer also lost his match. The score is now 19-12 Randolph

Then the remaining Hopatcong wrestlers all received forfeits in a chess match by the Randolph coaching staffs as they respected the heavier wrestlers’ abilities and choose not to wrestle our guys. 126lb Scott Prior, 136lb Brayan Rodriquez & 146 Dylan Fraizer all received forfeits. The last weight of 165lb was forfeited by Hopatcong.

That made the final score Hopatcong 48 and Randolph 46. It is the 2nd consecutive victory for the Hopatcong boys as last week they defeated Mt Olive 51-40. They pushed their record closer to .500 at 5-7 for the season.

With only 2 matches remaining in the regular season, please remember to come out and support the boys for all their hard work this season. This Saturday, they face off with Morristown (6-4) @ 9am at the high school & then on Wednesday they face off with Division leaders Pequannock (7-6) @ 7pm also at Hopatcong high school.

We have several boys in contention for Tri-County League Titles, and they would all appreciate the support from the Hopatcong fans.

  • 80lb Anthony Mastroeni #1 seed (12-0)
  • 85lb Ray Smaha #4 seed (9-3)
