Man 'Critical' After Head-On Car-Dump Truck Crash On Route 9 In Howell: Police
The man's juvenile passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries; the dump truck driver was injured as well, police said.

HOWELL, NJ — A Lakewood man remains in critical condition Thursday after ahead-on crash between a car and a dump truck that closed Route 9 on the Howell-Lakewood border for several hours Wednesday, Howell police said.
Shmaya Schubert, 31 of Lakewood, is hospitalized at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, along with his passenger, Detective Sgt. Christian Antunez said Thursday.
Glenn Jablonski, 29, of Bayville, who was driving the dump truck, was treated at the scene and taken to Ocean Medical Center, Brick, for further evaluation, Antunez said.

The crash happened when Schubert, who was northbound on Route 9 in 2005 Toyota Camry, came upon a vehicle that was stopped to make a left turn onto Ford Road, and attempted to pass the vehicle on the left, against traffic, while in a no-passing zone, Antunez said.
Schubert’s car was in the southbound lane, it was hit head-on by the 2001 Western Dump Truck operated by Jablonski, who was southbound on Route 9, Antunez said.

The crash, which happened about 11:25 a.m. and closed Route 9 in both directions for nearly five hours, remains under investigation by Howell Township Police Traffic Safety Unit Officer Matthew Cherney, he said. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Howell Police at 732-938-4111.
No citations or criminal charges have been filed at this time, Antunez said.
In addition to Howell police, responding units included the New Jersey State Police, Lakewood Police Department, Howell Township Police EMS, Howell Township First Aid, Howell Township Office of Emergency Management, MONOC Paramedics, Southard Fire Department, Squankum Fire Department, Monmouth County Prosecutors Office, Monmouth County HazMat, Alert Ambulance, Monmouth County SCART team, Hatzolah EMS and the NJ Department of Transportation Diversion Team.
