St. Veronica's Students Shine at Academic Bowl

Event was held at St. Rose

A group of students from St. Veronica School recently made the short trip to Belmar to take part in the Annual St. Rose Scholastic Competition. Having spent the time leading up to the event studying a wide variety of subjects the students came back to Howell with an impressive second place finish.

The competition included 10 schools from around the area making the runner-up finish even more impressive for the local team.

Each of the eight students had an area of speciality. Michael Abbazia focused his preparations on religion while Johnathan Alicea was the spelling whiz of the group. Timothy Broderick was put in charge of the math events with Karl Madl putting his attention to geography.

Other specialties included Ryan Palmer focusing on science, Joe Santanello studying current events and Christine Vadakara leading the way on social studies. Cassie Yaegel specialized in the English category to help the team.

Alicea said once the team was assembled they worked together toward their common goals. "Each member got right to work studying from either flash cards or from books," he said. "To prepare for this competition, they studied whatever they could get their hands on while they juggled their everyday school work." He added that they wanted to make sure they brought home a trophy for their school.
