Two Men Shot Near Freehold's Metropolitan Cafe: Report

Information is still being developed in the incident early Saturday that sent two Howell men to the hospital

Two Howell men are listed in critical condition after they were shot near a bar and restaurant in downtown Freehold early Saturday morning, according to a report on NJ.com.

The shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. at the Metropolitan Café on Main Street in Freehold, Charlie Webster, spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, told NJ.com.

The men, ages 35 and 39, were shot outside the bar and then came into the restaurant afterward seeking help, the restaurant’s owner, Robert Kash, told police, according to Webster. The victims were taken to the for treatment of injuries that were reportedly not life threatening.

Webster said the men were listed in critical condition on Saturday afternoon.

Kash told authorities there were only a handful of people in the restaurant at the time because last call is at 1:20 a.m., Webster said.

Kash said the shots were fired in back of the alley next to the restaurant close to the parking lot.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Monmouth County Crime Stoppers program, which will pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of suspects.
