Two Pedestrians Killed In Jefferson: Police

BREAKING: Both pedestrians have been pronounced dead.

JEFFERSON, NJ — A couple crossing the street after grabbing an early morning coffee in Jefferson have died after they were hit by two cars on Friday, police told Patch.

The couple was crossing Route 23 after making a stop at a local Dunkin Donuts around 5 a.m. when they were struck, Jefferson Twp Detecvtice Joe Kratzel told Patch. They were first struck by Jeffery Carr, 48, from Hamburg, as he was driving south on Route 23 in a pick-up truck, according to police.

They were stuck again by Robert Coward, 48, from Newton, who was also driving a pick-up truck, police said.

Both pedestrians were pronounced dead at the scene. Their next of kin has not been notified, police said, and their identities are not being released at this time.

The early morning crash closed all lanes but the shoulder of Route 23 South in Jefferson, police said.

Neither driver had been charged, and the investigation is still underway, police said. Drivers should take alternate routes.
