Jersey City Cop Rushes Into Deadly Shootout To Aid Fellow Officer

JERSEY CITY, NJ — When she saw her fellow officer wounded and pinned down behind a car during a deadly shootout, Jersey City Police Sgt. Majorie Jordan didn’t retreat from the danger.

She charged into it.

Jordan, one of the officers on the scene at Tuesday’s fatal shootings in Jersey City, is being hailed as a hero after selflessly risking her life to rescue an injured co-worker.

During the harrowing confrontation, two heavily armed shooters killed four victims: Jersey City Detective Joseph Seals, Leah Mindel Ferencz, 32, Moshe Hersh Deutsch, 24, and Douglas "Miguel" Rodriguez, 49.

Police fatally shot the two suspects, David Anderson, 47, and Francine Graham, 50.

Authorities initially said the attack didn’t appear to be an act of terrorism. However, on Thursday, representatives with the FBI, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office said the shooting is being investigated as a “domestic terrorism incident with a hate-crime bias slant.”

The shooting has left a city and state in mourning. But despite the tragedy, there were also moments of bravery and heroism, authorities pointed out.

The New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association shared video footage of one such harrowing incident on social media, including a message of thanks to Jordan:

“So many brave heroes on Tuesday. Here are two of them. A Jersey City officer confronts the killers and is immediately shot. Sgt. Majorie Jordan abandons her cover, runs into a hail of gunfire and gets him to his feet and to safety. Courage and bravery by so many.”

Twitter user @blobzy91 posted a video clip of the incident on the day of the shooting. WARNING: Video contains violent footage. Viewer discretion is advised.

Jordan’s response has been getting high praise from other police agencies, including the North Caldwell Police Department.

“Sergeant Jordan abandoned her position of cover and ran out into the open to the aid of her officer that was shot,” the NCPD wrote online. “She got him to safety, all while taking on heavy gunfire. She is a true hero who risked her life for her officer. Thank you Sergeant Jordan for your heroism, you are a warrior. This is one of the amazing heroic stories to come out of yesterday’s tragic events.”
