• Kearny's extended school year program thrives more than 50 years after inception (theobserver.com) — Kearny's Extended School Year program for students with disabilities has been running since 1971 and now employs about 60 Kearny High School students each summer as aides and mentors. The program offers vital support for younger learners while giving local teens hands-on leadership experience that often inspires careers in education and special services. 
• Kearny's Feltey promoted to Three-Star General (theobserver.com) — A Kearny native, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Thomas M. Feltey, has just been promoted while assuming command of V Corps during a ceremony at Fort Knox. His new three-star role follows his leadership of the 1st Cavalry Division in Eastern Europe, and The Observer plans a fuller profile soon for local readers.
• Toll of Commuting: An inside look at how NJ Transit cleans its trains (news12.com) — NJ Transit is ramping up how often and how thoroughly it cleans train interiors and exteriors, including using train-wash facilities in Hoboken and Kearny. Crews are disinfecting seats, handrails and vestibules daily, and replacing cloudy windows as part of a broader push to improve riders' experience under a recent executive order.
