LAKEWOOD, NJ — A Lakewood woman has been charged with bias intimidation after she made "derogatory and offensive remarks" to one of her neighbors in Lakewood, police said.

Sandra Eaton, 71, was charged March 10 with making the remarks as the neighbor walked past her house on Clydebank Court, police said.

When police responded to the neighbor's call about the incident, Eaton continued making derogatory remarks, police said.

Eaton was charged with bias intimidation and harassment after police reviewed the incident and served with a summons, police said.

"Lakewood is a diverse community where everyone deserves to feel safe and respected," Police Chief Gregory Meyer said. "Behavior that targets someone based on who they are has no place in our neighborhoods, and we will take appropriate action whenever incidents like this are reported."
