This 90-minute presentation covers the history of the Château de Versailles and the music composed and performed over 150 years.
Versailles was originally built in 1623 as a hunting lodge by Louis XIII. His son, Louis XIV, the Sun King, expanded it into an opulent palace and made it the center of the French court. Entertainment and music were closely intertwined with life at Versailles, with more than 150 musicians and composers such as Lully, Rameau, Mozart, Gluck and Royer attached to the King’s service. The presentation will include video clips of period music performed at Versailles and a virtual tour of the palace. Refreshments will be served.
