Exhibit of Torah Mantles by Ina Golub, Renowned Judaic Artist @ TBA
TBA Sodowick Museum Showcase has exhibit of beautifully crafted Torah mantles, by artist Ina Golub, which grace the temple's Torah scrolls.

Temple B’nai Abraham is fortunate to house a beautiful space in the lobby of the synagogue to display exhibits, known as the Sodowick Museum Showcase. Throughout the year, the Museum is home to a variety of exhibits stewarded by the creativity of co-chairs Jessica Goldstern and Bonnie Colletti. Now until October there is a wonderful exhibit of the beautifully crafted Torah mantles which grace the Temple’s magnificent Torah scrolls created by renowned Judaic artist Ina Golub .
Ms. Golub creates unique handcrafted fiber art related mainly to Judaic themes. Inspired by the exquisite formations of nature and the concept of light in Judaism her work captures these abstract qualities by the careful juxtaposition of color and texture to create striking design in woven, beaded and applique techniques. Ina Golub has been commissioned by synagogues, museums, and private collectors throughout the United States to create custom-designed fiber art, including tapestries, Jewish ceremonial objects and textiles with secular content.
Each of our 13 Torah scrolls has two mantles made just for it. Artist Golub created one mantle in white for wearing on the High Holy Days and the other, for year-round use, is made of a bronze blend of wool, linen and viscose, with brilliant decorative silks and embellishments added to represent the joys of Shabbat. The designs reflect specific images based upon Genesis, the early experience of our people in the desert and the words of Psalm 104, “the earth is full of Thy creatures.” These 26 mantles were designed and executed for TBA in 1984 through 1986 and were made possible by a generous commission from the Joachim Silbermann family.
