Mayor In Essex County Blasts 'Misogynistic' Shot At Rep. Sherrill By NJ Republican Leader
"As currently the only woman mayor in all of Essex County," a local mayor condemned an insult from the head of NJ's Republican party.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — After a New Jersey Republican official used a curse word to describe Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-11th Dist.) after her re-election victory Tuesday night, several officials condemned the characterization, including Millburn Mayor Maggee Miggins.
“As currently the only woman mayor in all of Essex County, I am a firm and staunch advocate for encouraging women to seek public office and leadership positions when they get there," Miggins said in a release this week.

She joined Democratic State Sen. Richard Codey in saying that NJ State Republican Chairman Bob Hugin should resign.
“The insult that NJ State GOP Chairman Bob Hugin spit at our Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill on election night was not just a disgrace but personally disqualifying for him on so many levels," said Miggins, a Democrat, in the release. “I join with former Governor Codey in condemning Hugin’s remarks and his call for him to resign, effective immediately. There is no place in a civil society where when entrusted with responsibility you can exhibit such uncivil and misogynistic behavior and not expect to be held accountable."

Sherrill won re-election to her seat Tuesday against Republican Paul DeGroot, after a redistricting doomed several other Democrats, including her neighbor to the west, Rep. Tom Malinowki. Malinowski lost to Tom Kean Jr.
Hugin called Sherrill a "piece of s--- legislator" after Sherrill won Tuesday night, said Politico. Hugin then told reporters he regretted the remark, but that too often, Sherrill voted with Pres. Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (herself the target of name-calling this week from a prominent Republican), according to Politico.
The remarks weren't the first from Hugin that were controversial. He has been asked to apologize several times in the last few years, including for implying that too many New Jersey college graduates were living in their parents' basements. He also tried to ban women from an all-male eating club at Princeton decades ago, but in 2018 said he'd learned and evolved.
Hugin said this week, “I don’t like when people call people names. We should be above that. When I don’t live up to my standards, I’m glad to apologize… I will never take back the fact that she is the most disingenuous congressperson," according to Politico.
