Starting July 11, Livingston Public Schools will open the doors on a Summer Academy for students in Grades 6 to 12.

  • Remedial courses for students who need to recover credits
  • Bridge courses for students seeking to get a step up on more demanding classes

“The district is committed to providing students with excellent educational experiences,” said Natalie Topylko, coordinator of testing. “Staff will include Livingston teachers who will continue to implement high-quality instruction to meet Livingston’s demanding curriculum.”

The remedial programs are intended for students who have taken, but not earned, sufficient credit while taking the class during the academic year, school administrators said.

Courses being offered include high school Algebra 1 and II, Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, Modern World History, English, and Health. Middle school courses include Math (Grade 6), Pre-Algebra (Grades 7-8), Integrated Science (Grades 6-8), Social Studies (Grades 6-8), and English (Grades 6-8).

The summer classes will consist of 60 hours of instruction per class over the course of five weeks, June 27-July 29. Two sessions will be offered, 8-10:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m.

The cost is $250 for in-district students; $300 for out-of-district students.

BRIDGE PROGRAMS

According to a school news release, the offered bridge programs are one-week courses intended for students who would benefit from a preview of upcoming coursework. Courses will address the key concepts for the initial units in the syllabus. Classes are recommended for students who taking their first Advanced Placement (AP) or honors class, or who were taking a college prep (CP) level course the previous year and are transitioning to an AP or honors level class this coming school year.

Bridge courses will be offered in Biology Honors, Biology AP, Chemistry Honors, Chemistry AP, Geometry Honors, Algebra II Honors, Pre-Calculus Honors, Calculus (AB) AP, Social Studies AP/Honors.

The bridge courses are one week, Monday-Friday July 11-July 15, August 8-Augst 12, August 15-August 19, and August 22-August 26, from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

The cost is $250 for in-district students, $300 for out-of-district students.
