'Strong To Severe' Thunderstorms, Minor Flooding Possible In North Jersey: NWS

A Hazardous Weather Outlook says heavy rain later Sunday may cause minor flooding. Find out when it's expected to start.

NORTH JERSEY, NJ — Thunderstorms are expected in late Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service said, and the "strong to severe" rainfall could produce minor flooding.

The NWS issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, and Union counties.

Up to an inch of rain could fall Sunday afternoon and evening.

The outlook says: "Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening across the area. There is the potential for a few of the storms to become strong to severe, with strong winds the main threat.In addition, heavy rainfall could produce areas of mainly minor flooding."

Storms are possible for Monday, too, with winds the main threat, the NWS says.

Thunderstorms are mostly expected from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, and possibly after, the forecast says.
