Teen Charged In Mercedes Theft, Attempted Ferrari Theft In Livingston

The Livingston police have charged a Newark teen in connection with the theft of a Mercedes and an attempted theft of a Ferrari.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — After several vehicle thefts and home break-ins in the area, Livingston police have arrested a suspect in theft of a Mercedes and an attempted theft of a Ferrari.

Police announced Tuesday that they had arrested a 19-year-old Newark man in connection with the theft and the attempted theft, both in May.

Police said that on May 16, at 6:46 a.m., Livingston police responded to a house on Chetwynd Terrace. The homeowners told police they had awoken to find the front door to the house wide open. The keys to a Mercedes Benz and an Audi were missing, as well as a wallet, $300 cash, two purses, and credit cards, they said.

The pair also told police that the Mercedes Benz was missing from the garage.

Detectives Angelo Vella and Michael Spano investigated this case and on made an arrest on June 7, police said.

They arrested Elhajjmalik Diallo, 19, of Newark and charged him with attempted burglary, conspiracy, fencing, receiving stolen property, and theft in connection with the May 16 case, police said.

Police said that they also charged Diallo in a May 10 attempted burglary at a Melrose Drive residence in which someone broke into the garage door and tried to steal a Ferrari.

In that case, police said they charged Diallo with burglary, conspiracy, criminal mischief, and receiving stolen property.

The Mercedes Benz was recovered, police said.
