"Can You See Yourself Here?"
A look at college visits from a student's point of view.
Senior year is the time when students begin to think about their future and begin the college application process.
For many students, finding colleges begins with Naviance, a system used through our school website. It can be used for finding colleges by searching possible careers, locations, or prices. It is a great tool to keep track of colleges that a student is thinking about or applying to.
Seniors compile their list of possible colleges and begin to go on college visits as early as Junior year, often during spring break. This might even be earlier if, for example, you are interested in joining a group such as marching band, or playing a fall sport. You might want to visit a particular college during that season to see your college “in action”.

Areas of interest during college visits include cost, majors, housing, food, activities, campus location, and overall atmosphere. Personally, I have visited Bloomsburg University, Millersville University, West Chester University, and Kutztown University.
A question always asked is “Can you picture yourself going here?” I can’t stand this question. I always think, “well, yeah, I’m here right now so I guess I can see myself here?”

It’s hard to try to “know” where you want to go. Some students say when they find the right college they just know that it’s going to be home for them. So many factors go into choosing a college, which causes stress for many people. Despite the stress, students begin narrowing down their lists and begin to send in applications, transcripts, and letters of recommendation (which I will talk about in next week’s blog) as they start to map out the next four years of their lives.
