Blog: Creating Band Bonds

The combined concert at the high school is when middle school students can get to know some high school students while playing music with them!

Last night, February 9, the high school band performed in their second concert, which was unique from all of the others because it included the middle school band. Jazz band, the middle school band and the high school band all played separately, and then the bands came together for a combined piece, “Liberty Bell”.

This combined concert happens once a year and is mainly for the middle school students to see what high school band is like. They get to meet all of the high school musicians, talk to them and play next to them while seeing that it isn’t as scary as some people think it is. A lot of middle school students think that high school band is for more advanced players only, which is certainly not the case. It is definitely not for advanced players only. (I am proof of that!)

Anybody can join - that’s what band is all about! This concert is about letting the middle school students get to knows some of the high school students and find out that band is a fun activity that they should partake in when they get to high school!

The concert was overall a success and I think it made the middle schoolers feel more at home with the high school and playing in the high school band!
