About a month ago, I wrote about how I make time for fitness and healthy eating in my life, and two weeks ago, it finally paid off. On Saturday, August 27, I competed in the OCB Battle of the Belts, Bikini Division Competition. I had started training a mere 8.5 weeks earlier, eating a healthy balanced diet full of slow digesting carbohydrates, lean proteins, fruits, vegetables and healthy fats, and training 5 times a week with cardio and weights. 9 other females competed in this division. Following our pre-judging, we waited on pins and needles for a few hours until the results were announced. The show typically has pre-judging in the morning and a show at night, however, due to the impending Hurricane Irene, the night show was cancelled and results were called immediately following pre-judging.
All of the hours I spent preparing meals, doing cardio, and practicing my posing turned out to work in my favor. As they called the top five to the stage, my name was called last - I had taken first place. In both sheer excitement and disbelief, I walked on stage and claimed my trophy. I had not imagined that MY FIRST competition I would place so well. I was THRILLED to say the least. However, this, motivated me even more. I wanted to continue doing shows, continue to work on my physique, to tweak the things which could have cost me first and be even more proud of my hard work. More importantly, I wanted to share this feeling with others. I wanted to help other people feel good in their own skin, proud of their accomplishments. I wanted to encourage people to eat in a way that FUELS their body, that their bodies respond to and create results!
What would be the best way to do this? To help reach others? To help motivate, encourage, push them to levels they never dreamed possible? The wheels in my head were spinning. Blogging like I do here, helps to get the word out that it is possible, that people can eat all day long, can work out in an enjoyable fashion and see results. But how can I reach them even more? Well, there is a solution to this. For many people, gyms are not a feasible option. I personally do not “belong”to a gym as it does not make sense- I can not drop my son off at daycare ALL day while I am at work, then pick him up and bring him to a gym and drop him in daycare yet again. So I work out at home, or on my lunch hour. However, not everyone is motivated to do it on their own at home- so what is the next best solution? I can help.
