Blog: Did Cupid Shoot You?
Valentine's Day brings much debate to high schoolers, but everybody should take the opportunity to spread love!

Valentine’s Day is a day that is debated strongly among high school students. If you were to go on a high school student’s Facebook page at any point within the past week, you would see a mixture of status updates about Valentine’s Day. Some would be excited about the day, some would be complaining about the day, and some would be complaining about the people complaining about the day. There’s even the one or two people that complain about the people complaining about the people complaining about the day. Either way, it’s the hot topic of this week.
In school on Tuesday, all of the talk was about Valentine’s Day. Once again, you would hear people saying how much they hated the day mixed in with the ones who welcomed the opportunity to spread love. Girls walking around with giant teddy bears that their boyfriends gave them, people with carnations or roses that somebody bought for them from the Freshman flower fundraiser, and people wearing pink and red were common sights in school on Tuesday. (One girl even got locker bombed with hundreds of paper hearts floating out of her locker when she opened it in the morning! I heard her name started with an M and I think she blogs for the Long Valley Patch, but I won’t name names...)
My personal opinion is that even if you do not have a significant other to share the day with, who said that Valentine’s Day is only to celebrate with a boyfriend or girlfriend? It’s to show your love and appreciation for anybody who you care about! A parent, best friend, sibling, or even the boy you sit next to in Chemistry. The day should be taken as an opportunity to show these people that you love them. I believe that we should never pass up an opportunity to tell somebody we love that we love them because unfortunately, the sad truth is that we never know if we’ll get the opportunity again. So spread the love this Valentine’s Day week and give an extra hug or smile to that special someone!
