Fight Back
Relay For Life is beginning, an annual event that lets high school students fight back against cancer.
One of the largest events in our community every year is the annual Relay For Life. This event is known worldwide, but specifically in our community, West Morris Central and West Morris Mendham come together to raise money and spend the night together under the stars to fight cancer.
The event itself is an overnight in June (this year located at West Morris Central), but the preparations begin now. Teams are beginning to form, which means that all students should get together with their friends, start a team, and begin to raise money. It is for a great cause. Cancer affects everyone and this event’s main goal is to stop it.
Along with helping to put an end to cancer, this event is a ton of fun. It’s essentially one huge sleepover with two entire high schools. Last year, over 1,000 students participated. One person from every team is supposed to be walking on the track at all times, hence the term “relay”. There are always games going on, music playing, and friends to be with, so you will never be bored.

It is also an emotional event because of the various ceremonies throughout the night where everybody is reminded of the impact that cancer has on society. This event is truly an inspirational, emotional, and enjoyable night for everyone.
I have participated all 4 years of high school, being a team captain twice, and I
encourage all students to get involved as soon as possible! For more information,
students can see Ms. Gonzalez at WMC or Ms. Pelizzoni at WMM.
