Green Team Has Successful Paper Shredding Event, Needs Help Getting the Word Out

The Township Green Team needs help letting residents know about recycling events.

Saturday morning turned out to be a decent day weather wise and a successful day for the Green Team's second Paper Shredding event of the year. There was a steady stream of residents dropping off boxes of papers to be shredded and no delays in getting cars and SUVs unloaded and on their way to other appointments.

Having said that, we still need help in getting the word out about the Green Team's recycling events. Several people asked if we would be recycling electronics soon, and were surprised when I told them we had a very successful event at Cucinella school two weeks ago. Other residents said they just learned about the shredding in the past couple of days, and would have had more items to recycle if they had more notice.

Here are the ways we have been trying to get the word out to all residents: Posting event notices on the Town website, on the Green Team Face Book page, on Patch, in local newspapers, at the Municipal Building, Town Library, and Senior Citizen Center. Sending copies to the schools for inclusion in the Friday information notices, put flyers up and had them distributed in cooperating businesses, got notices posted on sign boards outside the Municipal Building, DPW, First Aid Squad, and Fire company.

I pass out copies at meetings I attend and "talk it up" whenever I have a conversation with someone. Still there are residents who don't get the word. Does anyone have suggestions on how we can do better? Would clubs and sports groups be willing to pass the information along to their members? Are there any additional businesses in town who will let us post flyers? I know there must be more ways to make residents aware of what we are doing.

PLEASE POST YOUR IDEAS.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us and participated in the four Green Team events to date. By the way, keep an eye out for a possible Green Team Tire recycling event in November. We want to offer another convenient service for our residents, and keep tires out of the woods, steams and rivers in our town.
