I Love Running Today

My love-hate relationship with running.

For most of my life, I have hated running. Quite the in-active individual as a child, it made sense that running was not fun for me.  I did not enjoy gym class, never really participated in sports growing up and anything more than swings at recess was nothing at all of interest to me.  So obviously, running was never something anyone, including myself, would expect me to do. Ever.

Once I hit my early 20s though, I started working out and realized I kinda liked the feeling of actually moving around once in a while.  Over the years, I joined gyms, tried karate, took up dancing and even trained with a professional kick boxing coach for a while there. But I still always, always hated running. Then a friend of mine, (an avid runner friend-a friend who did things like ran marathons mind you), said 'You can be a runner. Just try it.'  SO, I did. I was 33 years old, had just given birth to my daughter and, for some odd reason, thought taking on a new sport, a sport i'd spent my entire life trying to avoid, was a good idea.

That was 4 years ago, and on some days I really still just hate running and try to avoid it as much as I can.  However, my friend was right. I did become a runner.  Granted, I am a runner who needs really good music to keep myself going, rather than just that runner's high I hear so much about. I am also a runner who does not run fast, and probably never will & am (sometimes) okay with that. I am a runner who often looks more forward to the "cross training" training days than the actual running training days because sometimes, running is just boring. BUT I am also, quite shockingly also a runner who has completed a bunch of 5K races, a half marathon AND even one FULL marathon.  (although truth be told- that full marathon kinda made me hate running a little more than i did before).

So yes running and I, very much, have a love-hate relationship. But we are enduring the torment that it is and today, after the run I just completed, I love running.  We'll see how I feel about it tomorrow though.
