Local Children Fundraising for Glenn Lightner

Flocktown road neighborhood children fund raise for their peer.

As I was driving home yesterday, I noticed a group of children on the corner of Flocktown and Warwick drive. At first I figured it was just a normal drink stand on a warm Spring day, how cute, I thought, but did not feel compelled to stop. When I got close enough to realize what these children were really doing, I was overcome with emotions.  Their sign reads "Help LV Boy Glenn Needs Cancer Operation, Donation for Iced Tea"  I immediately turned around and went back to their stand and gave my donation.

, he has undergone 5 surgeries and the family is now seeking alternative medicine. The Lightner’s friends and neighbors recently began a Give Forward page accepting monetary donations to help the family with the costs of pursuing alternative medicine not covered by insurance.

The kids who have initiated and participated in this fundraiser on Flocktown Drive are Matty Bohr, Nicky Bohr, Robby Bohr, Jordyn Goldklank, Matty Ruppel, Bobby Mraz, Taylor Parkinson Gee, and Taylor Grant. Their inspiration, Mrs. D'Angelo, a teacher at Cuccinella mentioned to the class that everyone can do little things to raise money for Glenn.

In two days these kids have raised over $250.00. The principal of Cucinella School Dr. Battitori called the childrens mother, Stacie Bohr, and gave her support, stating that she was "humbled" by what these kids have done.

After seeing this sign I realized that we are so fortunate to live in this great town, where we can rely on each other in time of need and support one another. It was so inspiring and comforting to see the children working to support their peer.  I am so glad that the tradition of giving in Long Valley is continuing and is displayed through the actions of our children.

The other side of their sign reads "If every car that drove by gave just $1, we would have $200 each day". Thats a great point. So take a few minutes out of your day to drive down Flocktown and give a donation.

I am working with this group of children to set up a fundraiser at Ort Farm's, more info to come soon!
