Memorial Day Thoughts

Memeorial day thoughts, and a "thank you"

Memorial Day means a lot of different things to different people. For some, it’s the beginning of summer or a shopping holiday. To others, it’s more that that. My father was a WWII Air Force Technical Sergeant, who repaired the planes that flew “the hump.” He had a CBI patch –China, India, Burma, and brought back with him a deep love for India, a Good Conduct Medal, and his future brother-in-law, my uncle, Bill.

Throughout my life, I’ve been touched by people who have served – from my scoutmaster, John Hart, WWII; to my cousin David, Viet Nam and my classmate and fellow Boy Scout, Tristan Hayes, who was killed in Viet Nam, to my youngest nephew, Graham Beckhorn. This weekend, I have my flag displayed and, as I enjoy the protection provided by those who served and those now in service, I say “thank you.”
