Meyler from Boy Scout Troop 36 Makes a Difference
Boy Scout Chris Meyler and troop 36 collect for Operation Chillout
Chris Meyler cares about the homeless. Through his Boy Scout troop, Troop 36 in Long Valley, NJ, he organized a donation campaign for Operation Chillout. His management of this collection attributed to providing supplies to the homeless in 30 locations for twelve NJ counties. Troop 36’s contribution will be a great benefit. Chris stated, “We collected enough items to fill six backpacks plus many additional items that I brought to the church to be put in other backpacks.” These backpacks combined with others created by Operation Chillout collection partners will be a welcome gift this holiday season.
Chris is part of a committee for the organization Operation Chillout. He is affiliated with the group from St Luke’s parish in Long Valley. Operation Chillout was founded in 2000 by an interfaith coalition that initially collected supplies for some homeless Viet Nam veterans in Northern New Jersey. It has since expanded and provides to the homeless by bestowing backpacks filled with collected donations. The backpack contains warm clothing, toiletries, and incidentals (meal coupons, prepaid phone card, flashlight, poncho, etc). These backpacks are an appreciated gift to the homeless to aid them through the winter season.
