Shelter from the Storm

How we're waiting out the storm

We are waiting out Sandy while hosting our daughter, four grandchildren, two cats, and a Cane Corso named Bella until it’s safe for them to return to their home in Union Beach, which is two blocks from the bay. Their dad is still down there taking care of the homestead and providing regular photo updates and info to us. We did this same routine for two days during Irene’s intrusion last year and hosted showers and meals as well. They say every cloud has a silver lining, and ours is the extended time we get to spend with the kids. Last year they helped up with mop up and maintenance chores and showed us their latest online kid sites. This year the two youngest (7 & 5) girls and I built a popsicle stick box and a message center from a wood kit. The worst hasn’t hit us yet and we hope we prepared enough. Our township seems to have things under control vis-à-vis information, shelters, and roads. I hope the township has access to the Honeywell alert system. I’m looking forward to when we can all be outdoors again and will hopefully not find a lot of damage. Best to everyone, stay safe, dry, and warm!
