Putting politics aside for a bit, summer seems fleeting now, but autumn provides for spectacular topless views, um, let me explain! If you have a convertible automobile—mine is a 1959 MGA, and you live near a place like Long Valley, NJ, these are the days you get to enjoy the most. Top down, crisp air, a wicker picnic basket with a cold bottle of white burgundy, and a camera are all you need to make a day of it. Typically, I like to hit the road going west towards Easton or northwest to Delaware Water Gap. Hotdog Johnny’s on Route. 46 in Buttzville (I’m not making that up) is a great place to stop if you forgot your picnic basket, and enjoy a dog and the best birch beer you’ll ever taste. If you select the western path, stop at Voorhees State Park to enjoy your picnic lunch and explore the park. The NJAA observatory is short walk and a worthwhile visit. Typically, we make it to Clinton through High Bridge and spend a lot of time with the river ducks from the bridge at the western end of Clinton and browsing the shops in town. My MGA was a welcomed visitor at the Clinton British Car Show a few years back.
In the olden days, it was polite to throw a wave to another car of the same make or model. Now, we throw waves to any other car without a roof. We’ve even been waved by motorcyclists and, of course, any teenager on foot. So, enjoy this place, enjoy this weather, enjoy this life!
