Time For Washington Township To Start Up Neighborhood Crime Watch?

Are Washington Township Residents Interested In Starting Up A Neighborhood Crime Watch Program?

Reading the reports of break ins, thefts from cars, petty vandalism, etc. in our town and surrounding municipalities I wonder if it is time to start Up Neighborhood Crime Watch groups again. Going door to door during my election campaign, I found entire neighborhoods deserted during the week days. No adults, children, cars, or pets. During the evening and weekends there were more people around, but an amazing number of cars parked in driveways, on streets, and at parks had a variety of items in plain sight. Cameras, shopping bags, wallets/purses, GPS units, Cell Phones, CD players, etc. and in some cases car keys. I would like to know if residents have any interest in starting up a neighborhood watch group. The Police patrols can't be on every street, and as recent articles show, an alert neighbor may be able to deter a criminal or provide information that leads to the apprehension of a suspect. Criminals and vandals look for deserted areas because they don't want to be seen. Just having someone looking at them as they check out a home or neighborhood may make them look for an easier area. With the weather hopefully becoming milder, our walkers and bicycle riders could add watchful eyes. Your Thoughts?
