Washington Township E-Waste Event a Success

Green Team has another successful recycling event.

Saturday, Washington Township's Green Team held its Summer e-Waste electronics disposal event at the DPW garage on Rock Road. Cars, vans and pick up trucks started showing up well before the 8:30 a.m. start and continued to arrive in a steady stream until 12:23 p.m.

Residents brought enough electronic items to fill a full-length tractor trailer and a large box truck with everything from large-screen TVs to ancient desktop computers.

The recycling company had eight employees on site so traffic moved quickly once the "opening rush" was over.

Recycling Coordinator Nancy Salvatore, Assistant Administrator Andrew Cappola and DPW employee Rickie Stevens made sure everything flowed smoothly. Joe Keyes and I were the "pretty faces" directing traffic and handing out flyers about the July Green Fest event as well as natural gas programs for Seniors pamphlets.

I want to thank our residents for supporting this event as well as Long Valley Patch, the Observer Tribune, township schools and local businesses for helping get out the word about this program. The Green Team hopes to have another collection event in the fall.
