Washington Township Morris County Volunteer Fire Companies Need New Recruits

Washington Township Volunteer Fire Companies Need Volunteers

The three Volunteer Fire Companies serving Washington Township, Morris County have started a recruiting drive. As some long term members retire and move out of State, and other members change jobs, go to college or move out of the area, the companies are running low on active members. Towns throughout Morris County and the State are experiencing the same problem, so mutual aid responses to help with emergencies are also becoming more problematic. Federal and State regulations as well as safety concerns set minimum standards for the number of firefighters needed to staff a fire truck before it can roll in response to a call. Home and automobile fires, commercial vehicle accidents, weather emergencies (flooding) and Mutual Aid calls all put demands on the companies. In a 45 square mile town, with over 18,000 residents, and many areas without fire hydrants there is an urgent requirement to have sufficient trained fire personnel available 24 hours a day 365 days a year to respond to emergency calls. Please read the attached flyer and contact the fire companies to see if you can help staff one of our most critical volunteer services.
