W.T. Library Teams Up With ICOWTA Food Pantry
Library Food for Fines program aids Interfaith Food Pantry get needed food supplies.
Working together and sharing resources doesn't just involve town governments. The Washington Township Public Library just completed a Food for Fines drive that allowed residents to donate food items at the Library to "pay off" over due book fines. The Pantry was running low on food supplies due to heavy demand in the current poor economy. Jackie Zuzzi and her library staff quickly set up a two week program to collect donated food items and transport them to the ICOWTA Food Pantry on Bartley Road. The public response was very positive. Grocery bags, boxes and stack-able food crates were filled with food donations. Some patrons of the Library donated cash, and over $300 dollars was collected and given to the ICOWTA Board. Many of the residents made donations even though they did not owe any fines. It is great to see that our residents respond to help families experiencing difficult times.
I want to thank Jackie and all her staff members for the great job they did at a time when they were also preparing to install a new County Library Software system.
