Cat, Bird Killed In Long Valley House Fire
Two dogs and two Chinchillas survived. The owner was not home at the time.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — A family's cat and bird were killed in a house fire last week, Washington Township Police said.
On Feb. 22, a Beacon Hill Road home caught fire in the basement. The owner was not home at the time, and two dogs, a cat, a bird, and who Chinchillas were rescued from the home by firefighters. The cat and the bird later died at the Long Valley Animal Hospital from smoke inhalation, police said, but the dogs and Chinchillas were expected to be okay.
The home is unlivable, fire officials said. The fire is believed to have started in the basement, and remains under investigation.

The Washington Township Fire Companies, Chester Fire Company and Califon Boro Fire Company, Long Valley First Aid Squad, The Washington Township Building Inspector, Washington Township Fire Inspector Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Detective Corporal Roger Garrison from the Washington Township Detective Bureau all responded to the fire.
