Central Theatre WINS Big at Montclair Theatre Night Awards (Foxy)

The "Foxy" Awards is a program through Montclair State University which recognizes excellence in the production of high school play.

Back on October 31, 2017 as I was promoting Central Theatre’s fall drama, I wrote an article titled “Be Prepared to Have Your Sensory and Emotional Buttons Pushed”. That’s exactly what happened last night at the “Foxy” Awards Night for West Morris Central High School Theatre program as they won the award for Outstanding Overall Production for their performance of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time”. Central Theatre was chosen from among 75 high schools entered in the competition and was judged based on the submitted videotaped performance of the production.

Central Theatre received a total of 10 nominations this year and took home awards for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography and Movement and Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor in Drama (Lars Olsen).

The “Foxy” Awards is a program through Montclair State University which recognizes excellence in the production of high school straight plays throughout New Jersey. The awards honor the accomplishments of individual achievement of both students and educators in the areas of performance, direction, design and technical theatre, as well as outstanding productions in Drama, Comedy, Classical and New Work.

On June 4th, Central Theatre will be going to The Papermill Playhouse Rising Star Awards Night. They have received 8 nominations including Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical (only 6 schools out of 100 are chosen) which gives them the opportunity to perform onstage at Paper Mill. This is Central Theatre’s second year being nominated!

Central Theatre received nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Orchestra, Outstanding Achievement by a Director (Jeff Hogan), Outstanding Achievement in Musical Direction (Mark Stingle & Margret Shaefer), Outstanding Achievement in Choreography (Dana Harrington), Outstanding Lighting Achievement (Jeff Hogan & Tim Meola), Outstanding Costuming Achievement (Susan Thompson) and Outstanding Hair & Makeup (Megan Spina) as well.

But that’s not all! They also received 4 honorable mentions this year including Outstanding Performance by a Featured Ensemble Member (Grace Alai as Evleen), Outstanding Performance by a Featured Ensemble Group (Darcy Caracciolo, Tori Caracciolo, Livi Mancuso, and Ella Musto), Outstanding Performance by a Chorus, and Outstanding Scenic Achievement (Mr. Jeff Hogan & Mr. John Hughes).

Congratulations are in order for Central Theatre and for the teachers who continue to help our students and children discover, develop and apply their strengths related to the art of drama.
