Cleaning Lady Stole $500 of Jewelry From Long Valley Home, Cops Say

Week-long investigation leads to criminal complaint against Succasunna woman, police report.

A Succasunna woman has been charged with theft after police say a resident had property stolen from her Long Valley home, Lt. Doug Compton said.

On Aug. 21 Officer Ryan Olah spoke with a Long Valley resident at police headquarters who was reporting a theft, Compton said.

The homeowner explained several pieces of jewelry had been taken from her residence, and Olah, with the assistance of Roxbury Township Police, identified a suspect in the alleged crime, Compton said.

Olah determined the suspect was employed by the homeowner as a cleaning lady.

On Aug. 28, Olah spoke with Amanda Smith, 21, of Succasunna, at police headquarters regarding theft jewelry, Compton said. An investigation lead to Smith being charged with theft of moveable property in the amount of $500, Compton said.

Smith was served a criminal complaint and later released with a court appearance.
