Cops: Alleged Drunken Driver Was Nearly 3 Times Legal Limit Before Crash at White Castle

Independence Twp. man had a .21 BAC when police found his car stuck in the snow on Mountain Avenue in Hackettstown, police report.

An Independence Township man was arrested Sunday night after crashing his car on the lawn of a business on Mountain Avenue in Hackettstown and found to be well over the alcohol consumption legal limit.

Hackettstown Police responded to 310 Route 182 at 7:49 p.m. Sunday night in reference to a crash, Sgt. Darren Tynan said. When police arrived, they found two men trying to dig out a car that was stuck on the front lawn of the White Castle building, Tynan said.

Police identified the driver as Brian Heubel, 43, and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage, Tynan said. An investigation revealed Heubel was heading south on Route 182 and attempted pulling into the business’s driveway because another vehicle was following him too closely, Tynan said.
