Crime Rates Go Down In Morris County

One Morris County town had the fifth lowest crime rate in the entire state.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Crime is down in Morris County, according to new data supplied by the NJ State Police's Uniform Crime Report, which was released this week.

The report provides information on violent crime in New Jersey, and Morris County saw most of its crime rates drop from 2014 to 2015, the most recently available year.

Overall, crime decreased 12 percent, from a total of 4,375 offenses reported to police officers around the county. 10,440 people were arrested in 2015, nearly the same as the year before.

Robberies increased slightly, from 82 incidents in 2014 to 88 incidents in 2015. Burglary, however, went down: there was a decrease of 22 percent from 785 in 2014 to 613 in 2015. Nearly $9 million worth of property was stolen; 30 percent was recovered.
