Detours, Delays to Snarl Traffic During 3-Week Bartley Road Paving Project

Milling, paving to start with alternating lanes of travel and turn into full closures this month.

Here we go again.

One of Washington Township’s busiest roadways, especially during the school year, is about to undergo a massive construction project that will create alternating lanes of travel and delays for three weeks.

Washington Township police announced Friday that Bartley Road, from East Mill Road to South Four Bridges Road, will undergo milling and paving between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays beginning on or about Thursday, Sept. 11.

During the first week of construction Bartley Road will be reduced to one lane of travel with alternating traffic.

Once milling and paving begins, the project will be split into two portions and detours will be established, police said. The first portion will be between East Mill Road and the intersection of Bartley Road with Naughright and Coleman Roads. The second portion of the construction will be between the Bartley and Naughright/Coleman road intersection and South Four Bridges Road.

At the end of each workday, both lanes of the road will be reopened to motorists.

The project is expected to last up to three weeks and is being completed by Topline Construction of Somerville. Bartley Road is county-owned and the project is under the supervision of the Morris County Department of Planning and Public Works.

Police are encouraging residents to plan an alternate route and expect a large amount of congestion in the area.
