Dog Killed Rabid Raccoon: Washington Twp Police

LONG VALLEY, NJ — A dog killed a rabid raccoon in Washington Township (Morris) earlier this week, police said.

The dog's owner spotted the dog fighting with the raccoon around 5 p.m. on May 15. After pulling the two animals apart, the owner realized the raccoon was dead.

The raccoon tested positive for rabies the next day, police said. If anyone else had incidents with a raccoon in the West Mill Road area, is asked to call the Washington Township Health Department at 908.876.3650.

Anyone who has a new incident with a raccoon is asked to call the Washington Township Police Department at 908.876.3232 and press “0”.
