Drunk Driver With Taser Crashed Into Boulder, Cops Say
Hillside man charged with multiple offenses after single-car crash that shut down Naughright Road Tuesday, police report.
A single-car crash that shut a major roadway in Washington Township Tuesday resulted in a driving while intoxicated and weapons possessions charges, police said.
Patrol units responded to the area of 419 Naughright Road for a severe car crash at 11:44 a.m. Tuesday, Lt. Mark Niemynski said. When officers arrived they found the driver, Alexander Vilar, 33, of Hillside entrapped in the car, which had rolled over, Niemynski said.
Vilar was traveling north when he careened off the road, striking curbing, mailboxes and then a boulder, Niemynski said. Vilar had to be extricated using the jaws of life, transported to a landing zone, then flown by helicopter to Morristown Medical Center.

During an investigation a taser was found inside the vehicle. Vilar was charged with possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to keep right, failure to maintain lane, open alcohol container in a motor vehicle, and obstructing the flow of traffic.
The boulder, which was pushed into the roadway by the crash, was removed by the Washington Township Department of Public Works, and the Long Valley First Aid Squad and Washington Township Fire Companies assisted at the scene.
