Fundraiser for the Gumersells extended through May 20

There's good news: For one, the weekend is almost here, and there's plenty in and around Long Valley to keep you busy. But also, your chance to help a local family in need has just been extended. Read on for more of what you need to know today.

You Need to Know You Can Still Support the Gumersells: The “Pack the Pantry” fundraiser for the Gumersells, whose son, Jack, continues to recover on March 30, was extended and will now carry on at the until May 20.  LVMS students should drop off donations to their homerooms and community members can deliver goods to the school during regular school hours. You can find a list of specified items .

You Need to Know about a Musical Legacy:  Alyssa Bonagura will open for Baillie and the Boys at on Friday. Alyssa Bonagura’s music can be described as acoustic pop, and her album The English Diaries is a personal reflection of her time spent living in England. Alyssa will open for her parents Kathy Baillie and Michael Bonagura, who co-wrote Marie Osmond's single "There's No Stopping Your Heart," and whose former trio sang backing vocals on numerous singles for Dan Seals and Randy Travis. The event will take place between 8 and 11 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. The performance costs $15 in advance, $18 at the door and the event is BYOB.  Go here for more information.

You Need to be Entertained: Lunch Hour Six Pack Light will be playing at the Brew Pub on Friday at 9 p.m. Come out and listen to this acoustic/bass duo and taste one of the pub’s famous brews.

You Need to Get Spring Cleaning: Washington Township is offering free electronic waste disposal on Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the DPW garage, at 54 Rock Road. The following items will be accepted: cables, cell phones, computer monitors, copiers, CPUs, CRTs, DVD players, fax machines, keyboards, laptops, modems, old computers, printers, radios, scanners, stereo equipment, telephones, terminals, TVs, VCRs and VHS players. You Need to Visit with Lambs: If you missed the last weekend, attend the “Born to be Shorn” event at the Cooper Gristmill in Chester on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meet lambs, learn how fleece is processed and made into garments, watch as sheep are hand-sheared, and enjoy hands-on activities such as weaving, spinning, and craft-making.
