Hackettstown Honda Owners Pay $1.8M to Settle ‘Deceptive Sales’ Allegations

Hackettstown Honda on Rt. 46 in Washington Township is one of eight New Jersey car dealerships that has agreed to pay $1.8 million to settle allegations including deceptive sales tactics and withholding mechanical defects to used cars.

According to nj.com, the dealerships owners – Carmelo Giuffre, of Brooklyn, New York, and Ignazio Giuffre, of Colts Neck – will also settle with and provide restitution to 45 customers who filed complaints against the dealerships.

The Giuffre’s admitted no guilt and are settling because they want to avoid litigation, the report said.

The dealerships failed to honor negotiated or advertised prices for vehicles, charged customers for supplemental warranties or other “after-sale” items without the buyer’s knowledge, the report said.

Hackettstown Honda opened its doors in 2012. The seven other dealerships part of the allegations included Route 22 Toyota; Route 22 Honda; Route 22 Nissan and Route 22 Kia, all in Hillside; Hudson Honda in West New York; Freehold Hyundai and Freehold Chrysler Jeep, the report said.
