The Washington Township Public Library is hosting its first Community Read!

Community Reads encourage the entire community to read and discuss the same book. The intent is to foster shared experiences, promote literacy, and spark conversations.

The book we hope you’ll read with us is The Lonely Hearts Book Club by Lucy Gilmore.

We wanted to find a book that was neither too light nor too heavy, something that readers would find uplifting during this cold and dark season without being simply a 'cozy' read. The Lonely Hearts Book Club is warm and charming on the surface, but underneath it explores loneliness, grief, estrangement, and throughout it shows how books can help people and bring them together, which is almost too perfect for a Community Read, where books bringing a community together is rather the whole point.

We gave away 10 free copies at the start of February, but if you missed out on those we have extra circulating copies available for checkout, and can always request the book for you if all the copies have flown off the shelf, just ask at the circulation desk.

February through April the Library will also host programs that relate to the books, to view them all visit our Community Reads page. We hope you'll join us in our first Community Read!
