Man Shoots, Kills Self Near Schooley's Mountain Road, Prosecutor Says

A man shot and killed himself near Schooley’s Mountain Road on Sept. 21 in Washington Township, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

An investigation by the Washington Township Police and Morris County Prosecutor’s Office revealed the man, whose identity is not being revealed, took his own life, Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said.

The incident occurred near Deerfield Farm, Knapp said, and there was never any risk to the public.

According to Washington Township Police, the matter stemmed from a domestic violence incident, the details of which remain confidential per department policy.

Domestic violence deaths have been abundant in Morris County over the last five months, with three separate incidents in Jefferson Township, Denville, and Roxbury Township.
