No Drunk Driving Crackdown Grant, But Twp. Cops Still Adding Patrols

Labor Day revelers need to think before they drink and drive in Washington Township.

The annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is set to begin, where local police departments are granted funds to add patrol units and thwart impaired drivers.

In Washington Township, however, the grant – often for $4,000 or more – was not awarded, but that won’t stop the police department from going above and beyond to stop drunken drivers from motoring through town.

Washington Township’s Police Department will add patrol units and apply for funding from the Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund, Lt. Doug Compton said.

The squad won’t be adding as many hours, and will focus more on the timeframe around the holiday weekend (the Drive Sober campaign is officially set from Aug. 21 to Sept. 7), but will still have additional officers patrolling the roadways, Compton said.
